This week, you will step into the role of a tabletop game designer. You will invent a simple game concept, select a manageable chance system, build complete sample spaces to map every possible outcome, and calculate theoretical probabilities using fractions, decimals, and percents to create your game's Initial Theoretical Probability Profile.
Week 2: Test the Theory (Plan & Calculate — Playtest Trials & Experimental Probability)
Step into the role of a game studio playtester! This week, you will build a simple paper prototype of your tabletop game, execute structured playtest trials to collect real experimental data, calculate experimental probabilities, compare actual results against your Week 1 predictions, observe how data stabilizes over 30–50 trials, and identify game mechanics that need mathematical tuning.
Step into the role of a lead game designer and balancer! This week, you will translate your tabletop game onto a 4-quadrant coordinate grid, map player movement and key game spaces using ordered pairs (x, y), evaluate whether your game mechanics create intended balance or unfair advantages using your Week 1–2 probability evidence, and execute 1–2 mathematical game revisions to improve your game's balance and better align the mechanics with your intended design.
This week, you will audit your mathematical calculations from Weeks 1–3, verify your probability and coordinate data, justify your game design revisions using evidence, assemble your final Game Design Rulebook & Probability Balance Report, demonstrate your understanding on the Module 4 Skills Check, and reflect on your growth as a mathematical game designer.
